Welcome

Dear Members of our Sutherland Community :

As many of you now know, I was appointed as your interim principal for the 2017-18 school year. Cabell Guy, who has served our school and students for ten years as a counselor was appointed, also on an interim basis, for one year as my assistant principal.

Both of us are honored to be asked to serve in these new roles. Although I only have been at Sutherland for one year, it took not more than one day for me to begin to appreciate the wonderfully supportive community here and our exceptionally talented staff and faculty.

It’s not hard to understand why we are one of our school division’s highest performing schools. There is a celebration here of exploration and new ideas, and the partnership between students, staff and faculty makes the learning experience at our school very special.

Among my priorities this year is to build upon the solid foundation that Rick Vrhovac built for our school. I have particular interests in the professional development of our staff, in eliminating learning opportunity gaps among all our students, in broadening our innovative approaches to learning by hands-on experience, and in collaborating with you to continually move our school forward.

In fact, I’d like to make outreach an immediate priority by asking for your advice on our goals and objectives for the new school year. In the near future, I will be sending you an online survey, and I look forward to reviewing your thoughts and suggestions.

Thank you for all you do for our learning community. Please know that you can call or write at any time that I can be helpful to you or your student. I look forward to a year filled with exciting new opportunities for success.
